Setting Up a Facebook Page

What is Facebook? Facebook is a social networking website where you can communicate with friends, neighbors, classmates, business associates, clients, and prospective customers. You can locate friends you ahven't seen in years through Facebook. You can even make new ones.

More and more people are setting up Facebook accounts and, in recent months, more and more people are using Facebook and other social networking sites to build their businesses.

If you have an internet connection then you can set up a Facebook account in a matter of minutes.

In order to set up a Facebook account you’ll need to have a computer that has an internet connection. Since most of the initial start up information will be private you’ll want to make sure you set up your Facebook account where others can’t see your information. Its very simple. Type in the URL www.facebook.com.

Then click on the “Sign Up” button; you’ll be taken to a form that you’ll need to fill out.

You’ll need to type in your birthday and your e-mail address, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you to verify that you want to open a Facebook account. You’ll also be given a security code to type in and an agreement of the rules of Facebook; this is standard procedure when setting up a web based account that has multiple users. Once you receive the confirmation e-mail just click on the link and you’re ready to start searching for people or adding people to your list that you already know.

One of the great features about Facebook is that you can use it as your primary e-mail or communication device or you can have it redirect any communications that people send to you through Facebook to your primary email account.

You can upload pictures from your computer or your cell phone to make your Facebook page all yours. If you are planning to use your Facebook account for business, uploading a good professional photo of yourself is important. The internet can be impersonal. Provding a photo of yoruself (or even a video!) can go a long way to developing trust with your potential customers or business partners.

Setting up a Facebook account for your business allows you to interact with your clients in an online version of a social setting. It gives you the benefit of posting pictures or progress so that everyone who deals with your business will know exactly how things are progressing.

You can post photos, videos, web pages, links, documents, event announcements, notes, and more. Facebook even allows you to post a Twitter-like "What are you doing?" statement that can keep your friends or clients up-to-date with your activities.

Kepe in mind that benefit of social networking sites is found not in simply having a site, but in using it. You need to login frequently (every day is optimum; three times a week is a minimum if you expect to reap the marketing benefits of social networking). Having a Facebook account but not using it is like belonging to a real life networking group, but never showing up to events. It just doesn't make sense.

When you get your Facebook account set up, add me (Veronica Robbins) to your list of friends. You can look up my profile and I'll add you to my list, too, if you'd like.
